What role does the Board have in running Camp Menesetung?

As a registered charity, and incorporated ministry of the United Church of Canada, our volunteer Board of Directors are responsible for all aspects of camp operations, property, and assets. The board operates on a blended philosophy of ‘Visioning Board’, and ‘Operational Board’; with day-to-day operations designated to the Executive Director under board oversight, leaving the board with visioning, bigger-picture planning, decision making, and assistance with property, fundraising, and other initiatives.

Executive Director: Sean O’Leary - sean@campmenesetung.ca

I am interested in becoming a Board Member - what is involved and what are my next steps?

Great! Your voice is valuable, we do not have a membership fee, we particularly appreciate inquiries from those who are familiar with Camp Menesetung.

Here are our Board Member Expectations:

  • Have a clear vulnerable sector police record check.

  • Participate in monthly 1.5-2 hour evening Board Meetings including reading reports before hand, typically 10 months/year. Board Meetings occur in-person at Camp while it is open (with an opportunity to join by video-conference for a hybrid meeting); board meetings may also be hosted via video-call from time-to-time.

  • Offer ideas, suggestions, and opinions when input is requested on an as-needed basis via email or phone.

  • Participate in other opportunities to support the camp as best suites your experience and interest. For example: Lending a hand on a property project, helping host a fundraiser dinner, joining a committee, being an observer during a hiring day, distributing posters, writing thank you cards, mentoring a staff member etc.

Those interested are encouraged to send an email to Tracy (tracy.emmerton1027@gmail.com) outlining their interest and experience. After which point, should we have an opening you will be invited to attend a board meeting before making any formal commitment. Please let us know if you have any questions!
